Sarah Farmer Peace Award - August 21, 2010 Web: www.greenacre.org Email: diane.brandon@gmail.com
In 1904, Sarah Farmer, founder of Green Acre Bahai School, raised the first peace flag in an effort to focus world attention on efforts to end the raging Russo-Japanese War. A year later, the Russian and Japanese diplomats gathered in nearby Portsmouth for the peace conference that resulted in the Treaty of Portsmouth, ending that war. In honor of peace-maker Sarah Farmer, the Eliot-area Bahai community presents the annual Sarah Farmer Peace Award. This year the award honorsLEsley Smith and her "Peaceable Kingdowm: Conflict Resolution" program for children. Award presentation in Reimer Hall, Kelsey Center at the Green Acre Bahai School at 7 pm.
