Guitarist/Composer Larry Simon, from Brooklyn NY, has worked with many of today's leading jazz, blues and experimental artists. Simon has recorded and toured, both nationally and internationally, with John Zorn, LaMonte Young, David Sanborn, Big Jay McNeely, Lester Bowie, Rosco Gordon, George Coleman, Julius Hemphill, The Skatellites and many others. In New York, Simon also composed for a variety of dance and theatre companies and was active in the downtown experimental music community as Director of the Collective for New Music, a composer-and-performer collaboration group. Simon moved to Portsmouth six years ago and formed his group Larry Simon and Groove Bacteria, which has been performing regularly around New England and won the 2003 Spotlight Award for Best Jazz Act. He also created, organizes and performs with the popular Beat Night series every 3rd Thursday of the month at The Press Room in Portsmouth. A music teacher at Newmarket High School, Simon is also the founder and director of Collective Consciousness, a group of prominent New England musicians committed to developing and performing a repertoire of original compositions and arrangements with a world beat slant on jazz, rock and experimental musical forms.Contact groovebacteria@comcast.net

Larry Simon Ensemble "Jazz Drones" featuring: Larry Simon -- Guitar Don Davis -- Sax/flute Mike Barron and Frank Laurino -- Percussion Scip Gallant -- Keys Chris Stambaugh-- Bass

The ensemble performed jazz infused with the sensibilities of the sub-continent of India. This group is made up of some of the finest players in New England, including special guest Don Davis who has worked with Toots and the Maytals, L.L. Cool J., Lee Konitz, John Sebastian and many, many others.
